Origins

Indian Springs Village, Alabama, is a small city in Shelby County. The area has been inhabited since the 1700s by Native Americans and early settlers. Indian Springs was founded in 1923 as a retirement community for wealthy individuals from Birmingham, Alabama. On October 16, 1990, Indian Springs Village was incorporated. A total of 911 people signed a petition and voted for the incorporation of Indian Springs Village.

Indian Springs Village is a thriving suburban area just outside of Birmingham. The population was 2,363 according to the 2010 census, up from 2,491 in 2021. It is known for its excellent schools, abundant parks and recreation opportunities, and proximity to Birmingham. Indian Springs Village is primarily located along Highway 119, adjacent to the north boundary of the beautiful Oak Mountain State Park. 


The city is also home to numerous golf courses, tennis courts, swimming pools, and other recreational facilities. Many shops, restaurants, and entertainment venues are located throughout the city.

  • Old Mill Park: This park is located on the banks of the Cahaba River and features walking trails, a boardwalk, and picnic areas.
