Origins

At the Vulcan Park and Museum you can find the Vulcan Statue, the largest cast iron statue in the world. The Vulcan Statue was designed for Birmingham's entry into the 1904 World's Fair, and it was awarded a Grand Prize. After the World Fair, the Vulcan status was brought back to Birmingham.

How does the Vulcan represent Birmingham?

Birmingham's origins were in mining. Founded in 1871, Birmingham location was at the crossroads of the main railroads. The nearby deposits of iron ore, coal, and limestone help the city grow quickly, as Birmingham is the only place worldwide that all three amounts can be found in close proximity to make steal.

The Vulcan is the Roman god of fire and forge and highlights Birminghams industrial capabilities and roots in mining.

Vulcan Statue's Current Home

After restoration was complete in 2004, the Vulcan found is current home at the Vulcan Park & Museum. Today anyone can come to learn about the history of Birmingham and spectacular views from the five story observation deck.
